When I met Kathy and Michael for their engagement pictures, they told me the story about how they met. Kathy had a strong premonition she was going to meet somebody special that week. And when she was introduced to Michael while out with friends in Cedarburg, the two hit it off right away. So much that at the end of the night, Michael asked if she would go with him to a wedding he was attending the next day. Crazy, right? Well, she said yes! And here were are today, coming up on their 6th month anniversary as husband and wife!
These two are just so sweet and so in love, I was very excited to photograph their May wedding! But to say Kathy & Michael’s day was filled with nothing but joy, wouldn’t be the truth. Kathy’s father sadly passed away just months before their wedding date. So we all knew parts of this day were going to be difficult and painful. But I was truly amazed by Kathy’s strength and poise, and Michael’s love and compassion for her, as these two faced one of the most amazing yet bittersweet days of their lives, together…
The vendors that made Kathy & Michael’s wedding day possible:
Ceremony Location: St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mayville, Wisconsin
Reception Location: Brownsville Community Club in Brownsville, Wisconsin
Catering: Sue’s Country Catering in Lomira, Wisconsin
Florist: The Village Flower Shop in Mayville, Wisconsin
DJ: Midwest Sound in Waukesha, Wisconsin
Bride’s Stylist: Impressions of Mayville in Mayville, Wisconsin
Second Photographer: Kristel Stephany
The energy was palpable as the wedding party got ready at the church and guests started arriving for the ceremony. At this point it was mostly excitement and anticipation!
But emotion overcame everybody in the church as we waited for Kathy to walk down the aisle.
I think it started with Michael…and before I knew it, everyone seemed to be getting a little choked up. Even Grandpa was struggling to hold back. And there I was trying so hard NOT to cry so I could stay in focus and capture it all!
And when the doors at the back of the church finally opened for Kathy, a collective gasp came over the church…
After wrapping up at their beautiful church, our first stop for wedding party portraits was the Horicon Marsh overlook.
Then we stopped at Ledge Park where we used the entrance – a beautiful long drive lined with trees – for some fun and candid wedding party pictures.
And the last location was the most special spot to Kathy and Michael. They had been on walks here many times, and Michael had even carved their initials into one of the trees at this park, the spot where he would later propose to her!
Over at their reception, guests were arriving and getting the party started! Kathy and Michael did a beautiful job with their simple and elegant country themed decor.
Kathy’s uncle stood in for her father during the father-daughter dance. My heart ached for Kathy, who I’m sure wanted her Dad physically there more than anything in this moment.
After all of those emotional dances, it was time for the newlyweds to get some fresh air outside. I always like inviting the couples I photograph out for a breather. I think Kathy really needed this time alone with Michael. And I was happy to capture a few of these quiet moments between the two of them…
Congratulations Kathy and Michael! I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the two of you and seeing the special kind of love you share : )
