When I first met Shawn & Nick, I found out they are into all kinds of outdoorsy stuff just like we are! Shawn loved the idea of having their wedding outside, and hey – I love photographing outdoor ceremonies! In fact, they had chosen one of my favorite locations for a woodsy and rustic wedding ceremony – Kohler Andrae State Park! It’s simple amphitheater in the forest was just perfect for these two, and I was so happy they chose me to capture their nature themed wedding!
But when your heart is set on an outdoor wedding ceremony, and you live in Wisconsin…the last thing you want to hear is that rumble of thunder on your wedding day…
The vendors that made Shawn & Nick’s wedding day possible:
Ceremony Location: Kohler Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Reception Location: Sheboygan Yacht Club in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Florist: Bare Buds Event Floral Design in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
DJ: DJ Infinity in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Bride’s Stylist: Salon Sase in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Cake: Bettersweet Bakery in Plymouth, Wisconsin
Second Photographer: Sarah Monson
With the prediction of bad weather looming, it was amazing that everybody stayed so calm and positive all day long! At Salon Sase, the ladies used the upstairs room to finish getting dressed and ready. But first a little twirl in the bride’s dress was in store for the flower girl!
Since there was a little wait before the bus took the ladies over to the park, we decided to take a walk on the pier for a few fun and candid pictures of the bride with her bridesmaids. It’s so helpful when there is room in your wedding timeline to take some photos before your ceremony…and especially on a day like this where unpredictable weather is foretasted later!
And meanwhile, over at the park, the groomsmen and ring bearers were having their boutonnieres pinned on and hanging out with our second photographer for some pre-ceremony pictures. It wasn’t raining yet, but the little guys got a kick out of playing with her umbrella anyway : )
As the ladies made their way over to Kohler Adnrae, and guests started arriving, we started taking photos of the simple and gorgeous details set up for their ceremony at the Kohler Andrae amphitheater. That is when we started hearing the sky groaning. I know, it looks gorgeous, right?
Just as the bus pulled up with the girls, and the ceremony was supposed to begin, the sky decided to open up and start pouring. We quickly decided to take cover in the bus and found this little dude wasn’t too happy about being stuck there either! Too cute…
We seriously lucked out…the cloud that brought the rain was a small one. And we were able to carry on with their wedding ceremony outdoors as planned. Big relief! Because once that sun came out again everything was so beautiful…
The perfect backdrop for a couple who loves being in nature…
The plan was to take all of the family and some of the wedding party portraits at the park. Mother Nature wanted to throw in another curve ball though…yup, another dark storm cloud came rolling in. This one looked a little larger than the first, so we decided it was best to move everybody over to the Yacht Club, where the reception would take place.
But I couldn’t let Shawn and Nick go without taking a little walk to get at least a few portraits at Kohler Andrae!
By the time we had gotten over to the Sheboygan Yacht Club, the downpour had dwindled to a sprinkle. The wedding party were troopers and had a good time taking pictures out by the lakefront and on the pier.
And before we knew it, it had actually turned into quite a beautiful day! We really lucked out that the dark clouds decided to roll away and in it’s place came a beautiful blue sky with pretty puffy clouds!
Inside at the Yacht Club guests were enjoying cocktail hour and admiring the beautiful cake & cupcake display by Bettersweet Bakery. Jen at Betwesweet decorated the top cake to match Shawn & Nick’s wedding invitation! It turned out perfect!
The simple and natural theme continued throughout their reception details, like these pistachio and white hydrangeas used in the centerpieces.
Of course we could not leave without capturing a few photos of the newlyweds in front of this spectacular Sheboygan lakefront sunset! The perfect end to a perfect day – weird weather and all!
Congratulations again Shawn & Nick, and all the best as you begin this new chapter in your lives : )
